Standard Battery Charge Life is Dismal

Do you have a new 4G Smartphone? Were you as disappointed as everyone else with the performance of the standard battery that came with the phone? The Smartphone manufacturers have really blown it when it comes to thinking about battery charge life. Most of the new Smartphones are battery vampires. With all the bells and whistles that come on these new Smartphones, most users are finding they want an extended battery as soon as they can get one.

The HTC Incredible standard battery that comes with the phone is just plain feeble. It is only 1300mAh, which means you will be looking for a place to plug in that charger mid-way through the day. You can do some adjustments to how your HTC Smartphone is setup (see my blog Tips to Extend Your HTC EVO Battery) but the reality is that you still need more mAh, (mAh is the capacity of your battery, determining how much battery charge life you get). The higher the mAh rating, the more battery charge life you will get. It is amazing to me that the Incredible only comes with a 1300mAh battery.

Has HTC learned anything from the poor reviews on battery charge life? HTC may have been listening because they included a 1700mAh battery with their newest Smartphone released today, the HTC EVO 3D, but even that isn’t enough for all the widgets and apps running on the new phone.

What are your options? If you don’t mind having your phone be a bit heavier and thicker, the best option is an HTC Incredible Extended Battery. You have choices within this option and can choose an OEM extended battery, or an aftermarket extended battery. Both extended batteries require an extended battery cover because the extended battery is thicker and the standard battery cover won’t fit over it. If you purchase an OEM extended battery you will need to purchase a separate extended battery cover. The aftermarket extended batteries generally come with an extended battery covered included.

How much more battery charge will you get? For the sake of comparison, let’s look at the HTC Incredible extended battery vs. the standard battery. As I said before, the standard battery is 1300mAh. In terms of talk time and standby time (not accounting for apps and widgets), the 1300mAh is rated to give you approximately 4 ‘½ hours of talk time and 64 hours of standby time between charges. The aftermarket extended battery is2500mAh. This means the battery is rated to give you 8 ‘½ hours of talk time and 130 hours of standby time. That’s nearly double what the standard battery gives you. I have a Droid X extended battery with 2300mAh. Even with heavy usage I can go from early morning until I am ready to head to bed and plug it in. I love the convenience. Although it does make the phone thicker and heavier, the trade-off is well worth it.
